navigating change

Change is not just something that happens to us, it’s something we can learn to navigate with wisdom, courage, and curiosity. Another Door Opens isn’t just about waiting for one door to close and then scrambling for the next. It’s about transforming our relationship with change itself.

Whether you’re in the middle of a big life transition, or simply want to build your mastery in meeting change with openness, this ReadAlong is for you.

join in if…

  • You’re leading change - Whether you’re steering organisational change, managing transformation, or supporting your team through uncertainty, this is about fresh ideas on how to do it well.

  • Your business and work is changing - Change never leaves your business alone. It might feel like a rethink is needed. A reenergiser to get some new ideas going. It’s about exploring how to turn those unexpected interruptions into opportunities.

  • A door is closing in your life - You are sitting with that question ‘Now What?’. This exploration will help you to restart with conviction in what you want (and need) to do next.

  • You are helping others navigate change - Your clients are navigating messy transitions too. Bring them practical tools, fresh thinking, and stand out with a different, grounded but energetic approach.

  • You are reading the book and have a curious mind that likes to learn and share ideas with others.

Ready to Begin?

Come read Another Door Opens together.

Let’s practice together what it means to not just “get through” change, but to thrive because of it.

5 gatherings covering the 5 steps

Each gathering is a 15 minute mini talk covering the main points of the chapter (so if you haven’t read it yet you can still join in). We’ll then have some time to think out loud, share thoughts and listen to what other people took from the step. There will also be a challenge set at the end of each gathering so the group can support each other in their encouragement to embrace change.

You’ll need to register (on Zoom) for each gathering, this is to ensure a safe space for people. You can join all 5 (to get maximum benefit) or the ones that fit the diary!.

Step 1: Pause

Change often triggers urgency, the impulse to do something right away. But without pausing, we risk reacting from fear instead of wisdom. In this step, we’ll explore what it really means to pause: to breathe, to notice, to allow space between stimulus and response. We’ll look at practical ways you can use pausing in everyday life from transitions at work to moments of personal upheaval and how it creates clarity before action.

Step 2: Mess

Every change brings with it uncertainty, confusion, and complexity. The “mess” is not a mistake — it’s the natural terrain of transition. In this step, we’ll talk about how to recognize the mess without resisting it, and even how to use it. Mess can be frustrating, but it’s also where creativity and new patterns begin. We’ll explore tools for holding steady when things feel tangled, and how to see possibility in what feels broken or unclear.

Play

Play is not frivolous, it’s a survival skill. When we give ourselves permission to play, we step out of fear and into curiosity. We’ll talk about what play means to you and what it is in the context of change: experimenting, creating energy and ideas, allowing ourselves to imagine without judgment. We’ll cover how you can use play to lighten the heaviness of transition and discover unexpected options.

Step 4: Try

At some point, we want to start moving into action. Try is about the joy of making moves. It’s about taking small, intentional steps that help us learn our way forward. We’ll explore the power of prototypes, testing ideas in low-risk ways rather than waiting for the “perfect” solution. We’ll look at how trying helps you build traction, and why we should enjoy this part of the process more than anything else.

Step 5: Restart

And then we come to the end of our experience together by starting. Restart is about renewal: taking what you’ve learned from pausing, embracing the mess, playing, and trying, and carrying that wisdom into what happens next. We’ll explore how to integrate lessons from endings into fresh starts. This is about intention and responsibility and setting out your stall to own whatever happens next.

And what a way to close the year!

You’ll be ending the year ready to restart again in 2026.

An essential companion for anyone navigating change at work. Change is becoming the one constant we can all expect to face in our working lives. In this book Eleanor offers an essential guide to navigating change and finding ways not to just move past it but to fully embrace it.

Leaning into her own experiences as well as her coaching expertise, Eleanor carefully navigates the different ways to not just survive change but to use it to help you thrive throughout your working life”

-  Lisa Smosarski, Editorial Director, The Stylist Group

“It’s easy to kid oneself that working ‘in’ Change (with the capital C) is a qualification for navigating the changes we experience all around us – and to us – throughout our lives. But guess what? For all my professional credentials, I’m not good with change that affects me. Far from it, in fact. Anyone wondering ‘why is this happening?’ should pick this book up. Don’t put it down again, until you’ve had a healthy dose of Eleanor’s wisdom: this is a book from someone who has created the time and space to explore what many of us do not, or cannot. And it’s bloody great.”

Drew McMillan, Director of Communications & Engagement, Deloitte LLP

Like Wintering, but for your career. -Paul McGee, The SUMO Guy, author, speaker

Another Door Opens is a powerful and practical guide for navigating change, not just in work, but in life. Eleanor captures the emotional truth of transformation and offers something rare in this space: a deeply human, grounded framework that meets people where they are. For those of us supporting change at scale in organisations, this book is a reminder that real progress starts with personal clarity. If you work in L&D or lead people through uncertainty, this will speak to you and give you language to help others through their own doors.”

- David James, Chief Learning Officer at 360Learning and Host of The Learning & Development Podcast

“Eleanor’s book is the kind of companion I wish I’d had during my own professional pivot. Another Door Opens offers a wise and generous map for what those transitions really feel like. Not the polished LinkedIn version, but the real one. The limbo. The grief. The slow, uncertain becoming.

Eleanor doesn’t rush the process. She honours the silence and the searching. Her grounded, compassionate voice reflects so much of what we witness in our Happy Startup School community, people who are looking for work that feels true to who they are.

This isn’t just a book about career change or loss. It’s an invitation to meet yourself in the space between endings and new beginnings, and to imagine a more human way of being and doing as you move forward.”

Carlos Saba, Co-founder of The Happy Startup School

“Another Door Opens is an empowering and timely guide for anyone navigating change – whether by choice or circumstance. Eleanor captures the emotional rollercoaster of leaving something familiar behind and stepping into the unknown, offering not just reassurance, but real, practical tools to embrace it. As someone working closely with athletes facing transition and reinvention, I found this book deeply relevant. Its emphasis on self-awareness, purpose, and the excitement of new opportunities mirrors the very mindset we encourage in elite sport. Another Door Opens reminds us that change isn’t something to fear – it’s something to shape and be excited about.”
