Reinventing yourself starts with reflection

Reinventing yourself starts with reflection, and getting to know yourself, the good, the bad and the ugly - and that can be terrifying!

When we have a feeling we want something else, something more, something different than what we have right now we get anchored in the door we are closing or the door we want to go through.

The past and the future wrestle with each other in your thoughts.

They disrupt your comfortable ‘normal’ thoughts. They make you start questioning things. But they also make you feel stuck.

You might be clear on what you want to move away from, the things you don’t want anymore.

You might have a feeling or sense of what you’d like to move towards, but the how, how to do it is the question that sits heavy on your mind.

So how do you step forward.

Well the first thing is to let go of the door closing, and let go of the door ahead, and sit in the space in-between.

If you want to change your life, you want to reinvent yourself, it starts with thinking about why, not with what or how.

When you slow down all your thinking and give yourself time and space to tune into to what is going on, why you want something, then you start to create deep rooted foundations.

Five steps to help you reinvent yourself

  1. Reflect - Where are you right now? Think about your whole World. Everything that is going on. It’s all connected. Sometimes we want change because we are fed up of our current circumstances - a bad manager, a struggling business, disconnect with job. But there are often so many other things going on in all parts of our life. So taking time out to think about whats going on in all of your life helps to get clear on what you are trying to fix.

  2. Rethink - Who are you? Getting to know yourself can be a strange notion at first. We all think we know ourselves I mean we are ourselves! But do you really know yourself? What makes you tick? Why you do what you do? It’s time to rethink everything you thought about yourself. Challenge everything! You’ll need to really know yourself to help yourself reinvent and create your next chapter.

  3. Recharge - What do you need? Needs are important. You have to fulfil your basic needs to make changes in your life. So you need an honest and truthful chat with yourself about what you will need. When you are clear on that you’ll get energy to recharge and refocus.

  4. Reimagine - What do you want? And now the part that you maybe started with. What you want (or don’t want). But lets go deeper with that, lets spend time exploring the past, exploring the future and really using our imagination to help you see what your future could look like.

  5. Restart - what are you going to do now? That first step! The step that sometimes never happens. Or happens but sends you backwards. At this point it might feel overwhelming, there maybe fear, there will be internal chatter asking you what you are doing. When you press Restart you do it with small steps but big dreams. You do it your way, at your pace. And you restart based on the foundations that you’ve created with good deep thinking.

It can feel a bit frustrating if you just want to get on with bringing change in your life, you might feel you just want to get on with it. Where ever you start I can guarantee at some point you’ll need to do this thinking.

When you get stuck, when you have a bad day, when things don’t go to plan. You’ll need these foundations when you want to give up. They’ll keep knowing why, why you need to keep going.

So create time to reflect and think.

Your reinvention starts in knowing why you want it.

And it can start today!
