No-one wants to work with me!

“No offence, I don’t mind connecting but I hope never to work with you”

This was a response from a recent LinkedIn connection.

I think he was (joking) but it got me thinking.

There are some jobs (and therefore people) who you just hope you never have to work with.

Insurance is the obvious one. No-one wants to pay for that. But we are glad it’s there when we need it.

Health and safety, risk and compliance. All there to over think all the things we don’t want to think about but when we have to think about we really need them.

Of course the emergency services. No-one ever really wants to see them in their lives. But. When we do need them they are like miracles from heaven. (Unless you are being arrested, then possibly you might need more than a miracle).

Some jobs are about constantly living in the unimaginable moment of crisis, hoping you will never have to do your job.

A job no-one really wants to have to use

So I have one of those jobs. Kind of. Except you don’t have to pay in advance, it’s not an insurance policy. And it’s not a life or death situation. But is it reassuring to know that there is help if you need it? Yes.

I support people who have been made redundant

It’s a niche you could say!

Redundancy hits people when they least expect it. (Although sometimes there are signs, sometimes we ignore them).

I’m not exactly going to be on people’s wish list to work with.

However. Like all niche businesses, there are ways. And actually, you might want to work with me sooner than you think.

My business is about creating space to think at a time when the pressure is on to take action.

I work with people when they feel stuck. Just stuck. Not exactly sure why, or how to move forward. Just stuck.

Another Door is an online community taking people through the shock of being made redundant, the feeling of being stuck to starting to think about what to do next. This can apply to any of us, at any moment in time.

Sharing how I support people through the feeling of being stuck might just be what you need right now.

Feeling stuck is just your way of telling yourself something needs to change. And with the right support around you, things can change in more ways than you might expect.

  • I help people to think about what they really want to be doing

  • I help people start new businesses

  • I help people build confidence to go and get a promotion

  • I help people to make the decision to go off travelling!

  • I help people just feel a little bit better today

I’m passionate about supporting redundancy because I believe it can be an opportunity. But its also a hard time for people. It’s full of uncertainty and self doubt, and you can feel like you are going backwards, not forwards if you don’t keep focused on yourself. Having a community around you, people who are supporting your next moves can be a big difference.

Being made redundant is like a relationship break up, because that’s what it is. You had a relationship with your employer, you thought it was going ok, but suddenly they’ve decided it’s not working out. We all deal with break ups and change in our own way. And that’s why getting help on your terms, and creating space for you to think about this (and not letting others decide for you) is important.

Redundancy is just part of business.

‘Business is business and business must grow, regardless of crummies in tummies you know”. Once-ler, The Lorax

The World keeps turning, work keeps evolving, there are more opportunities out there than you might think.

Your business might not need your role anymore, but the World keeps evolving, how we work, how we live keeps evolving, and there are opportunities all around. Another Door is all about showing you the possibilities.

You might not want to work with me, yet, but how reassuring that there is a place you can go that will help you through if things happen.

And if you are someone who has to make people redundant you can also be supported. Unlike the insurance business there is no payment in advance, unlike the emergency services, you might be glad to be part of the community and even find it fun.

If you are curious, drop me a message. I’d love to hear from you.

You never know you might want to work with me after all!
